The Summer has ended and Fall has begun as we push forward to finish out the 2016 school year. We
have had an influx of international students to join our PCTI family. Many who are from countries in
Latin America and Europe have enrolled in our Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) program.
Ms. Compton ensures that each student is readily prepared to enter the workforce by providing them
with a solid curriculum toward becoming more knowledgeable and comfortable with the English
language. During the month of September, the VESL classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by
bringing traditional food dishes to class, as well as making presentations about their native countries all-
the-while utilizing their English language skills that they have currently learned.
Our admissions team has stayed quite busy continuously working to enroll fresh faces into our student
body. Their participation in several events such as Turn-a- Round Houston, Northside Job Fair, Fallbrook
Church’s 2 nd Chance Fair and Lakewood Job Fair has brought some flair into our classes as several new
students begun their new educational journey.
The Fall has also been a time of honoring our Veterans. We hold American pride as an institution!
Whether it’s enjoying a sunny day outside in honor of July 4 th and Constitution Day, or if it’s
participating in several Veterans’ oriented events such as “Red, White, and You” at Minute Maid Park,
we work to meet the educational and resource needs of many of our Veteran students. They matter
greatly to us, and for their sacrifice and contribution to their country….we say thank you!!
